Major Holidays in Vietnam: Best Time to Visit & Travel Guide
Holidays in Vietnam are some of the most exciting times to visit.
They combine cultural events, festivals, and travel options. In this guide, VIET DOVE Travel shares the major holidays in Vietnam you should know.
Summer Vacation - The Longest Break
The summer vacation (travel season) is three months long (June, July, August).
This is when students take a break and families travel together. Tourist destinations become lively with many activities.
What to Expect in Summer
- Beach trips are very popular to escape the heat.
- Mountain destinations are cooler and offer beautiful nature.
- The International Fireworks Festival in Da Nang (DIFF) takes place during this time.
From my experience, summer in Vietnam feels energetic and full of movement, especially in coastal cities.
Lunar New Year (Tet Festival)
Tet is the most important holiday in Vietnam, lasting around 7–9 days.
It usually takes place in February and marks the transition to a new year.
I personally love the atmosphere during Tet. Streets are decorated with flowers, flags, and colorful symbols, creating a very festive feeling.
Other Public Holidays in Vietnam
New Year’s Day (January 1)
- People will get 1 day off for this holiday.
Hung Kings’ Festival (10th day of the 3rd lunar month)
- On this national celebration for the first Kings of Vietnam, everyone here gets 1-2 days off.
Reunification Day & Labor Day (April 30 & May 1)
- Two important national holidays of Vietnam, and of course, 2 days off at least.
National Day (September 2)
- Usually 2 days off for the Vietnam National Day.
These shorter holidays are also good chances to travel, but popular destinations can be crowded.
Conclusion
Vietnamese holidays offer a great chance to experience culture, festivals, and local life.
Whether you visit during summer or Tet, each period brings a different atmosphere.
