Walk and Feel the Historic Beauty of Hoi An’s Old Town
Hoi An is Vietnam’s charming old city. Its timeless allure merges the rich cultures of Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese. You can begin at Hoi An’s iconic Japanese Covered Bridge.
Then take a walk on Tran Phu Street and feel the flow of time. Here is how your journey starts:

Feel the Fascinating History of Hoi An while walking on the old streets
As you stroll down Tran Phu Street, you will notice the houses with very low roofs. They are so low, you will feel you might touch them!
This is why: during Vietnam’s feudal era (15th-18th centuries), houses could not be taller than the king's or officials' palanquin, carried by soldiers!
This was Hoi An’s golden era, and Tran Phu is among the first and most critical streets. By walking to the end of the street, you will see taller buildings are taller roofs. This reveals the decline of feudalism in Vietnam.
All you have to do is walk around paying attention, and with the lantern light flickering on the roofs at night, you can feel the rich history surrounding you as you visit.

🌙 Wondering about the best time to visit Hoi An ancient town at night? For the most magical experience, plan your visit between 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM, when the lanterns glow brightest, the streets come alive with performances, and the local street food is at its best.
Connect with Locals & Release Your Wishes with Floating Lanterns
As you walk along the river, you will meet some friendly old local ladies selling floating lanterns. Don't be shy, say hello, and pick a lantern to let go!
This is my favorite activity. It is meaningful, easy, affordable, and surely beautiful! People release lanterns into the water at night with wishes of luck, happiness, and peace.
It reminds me of blowing out birthday candles, making your wishes. The tour of Hoi An at night is an awe-inspiring experience!
