From Hell to Heaven: My Buddhist Journey in Marble Mountains

Paul Lee

I used to see the caves at Marble Mountains as no different from any other caves. However, I was mistaken. Visiting Marble Mountains, Danang, was an incredibly fascinating adventure that took me from hell to heaven, and demonstrated Buddhist stories with the beauty of natural limestone caves.

Discovering the Contrast Between Am Phu and Heaven Caves

You’ve heard of hell or heaven, right? Well, they are opposite. Mine feelings and emotions were completely different, and the contrasting vibes and atmospheres make this experience very memorable. Here’s what makes them different:

    1.   Location: Hell Cave (Am Phu Cave) is almost deep down the mountain, whereas Heaven Cave (Huyen Khong Cave) is at the top of the mountain.
    2.   The Story: Hell Cave feels mysterious and invokes curiosity, whereas Heaven Cave is beautiful and peaceful.
    3.   The atmosphere: A dark Hell Cave with a contrasting lighter Heaven cave.

My Experience – From Darkness to Light

There is no doubt in my mind that Hell Cave did have a vivid and intense depiction of a soul’s descent into the underworld. You will feel a dim, heavy atmosphere.
I was filled with curiosity and excitement, wondering what a place hell would look like. Stern judges and demons would now carry out the punishments for various sins.
Here you can understand the Buddhist Karma, which guides you to be a better person. Yes, Hell is for a good reason to purify the soul.
After we left the underground, we had to climb up over 100 meters to get to Heaven Cave on the peak of the mountain. I was awed by the cave's beauty. The sensation overwhelmed me, and my heart was deeply moved.
The space opens your mind, and having the powerful light in it was a great feature. And you will see the obvious difference between Hell caves and Heaven caves.
A large Buddha statue stood gracefully in the cave, bathed in natural light from above, with magical illuminations. I honestly felt like I needed to blend into this world, to live peacefully and kindly.
