Cable Car – The Easy Way
Fansipan cable car cost: 800,000 VND
Traveling by cable car takes about 20 minutes
Taking the cable car is ideal for those who want to relax as well as save time and energy.
While traveling by cable car, you'll have the opportunity to explore Sun World Fansipan Legend attractions on your way, which includes your cable car and entry ticket.
Tip: The cable car does not take you all the way to the summit of Fansipan. There are two options for the remainder of the climb:
Walking up a few short stairs
Taking the mountain train (150,000 VND), which provides a panoramic view of the local villages and rice fields.
My experience:
I took the cable car and mountain train combination, which allowed me to sleep a little more while getting the best view (I reached the cable car station at 7:30).
When I came back down from the summit, I walked down the stairs to relax, then took the cable car back down.
Trekking - An Option for Thrill-Seekers
- Cost: about 3,000,000 VND (for 2 days 1 night guided tours)
- Distance of the trek: 16 km total round trip
- Time needed: 15 hours of walking.
Most tours require 2 days to complete.
Best option for fans of nature - you'll be walking through a variety of landscapes, including forest, flowers, and mountain views.
Good beginner trek: a bit difficult but not really hard.
Want a magical experience? Try waking up around 6:00 AM on your second day, and you'll beat the crowds to the summit.
If you're physically capable, you can complete the hike in one day.
Fansipan Summit Experience – What to Expect
Upon reaching the summit of Fansipan at an elevation of 3,147 meters, you'll find yourself surrounded by a sea of clouds as well as giant Buddha statues, prayer flags, and the Fansipan Victory Marker.
The views from the summit of Fansipan on a clear day can be seen for miles in every direction and include parts of Vietnam, China, and Laos; this is what makes Fansipan "the roof of Indochina."
Best Time to Travel to Fansipan
The best time to visit Sapa and, therefore, Fansipan is:
- September - November: The rice fields are turning golden during these months, and the weather is generally cool and clear.
- March - May: These months offer beautiful blooming peach and plum flowers along with plenty of sunshine.
Both of these periods are suitable for trekking and taking photographs.
Fansipan Travel Tips for First-Time Visitors
- It is chilly at the summit of Fansipan regardless of the season, so bring a light jacket.
- Try to avoid visiting Fansipan on weekends if you dislike large crowds.
- If you plan on trekking, make sure to include rain gear and proper hiking shoes.
- If using the cable car, try to arrive early in the morning when there are fewer people and the cloud formations are clearer.
Conclusion
Fansipan Mountain offers two unique experiences; select the route that fits your personality.
Regardless of how you ascend to the summit of Fansipan, you will never forget the feeling of standing high above the clouds.
