Best times to go to Ha Giang and flower seasons
Ha Giang, the northernmost province in Vietnam, transforms into a dreamlike land every spring with many kinds of colourful flowers.
Let's discover why this region has captured the hearts of photographers and lovers of nature alike, with VIET DOVE Travel.
Best time to go to Ha Giang
Ha Giang is attractive year-round; however, each season offers its own attractions.
- In mid-September, the climate becomes milder, and the summer rains have gone away. In addition, it is the rice-harvesting season, so you will see the golden fields of rice shining in the sun.
- From October to November, the season of buckwheat flowers arrives. On hillside and mountain tracks, there will be pink, purple, and white blooms.
- In December, the fields will be painted with yellow mustard flowers.
- In January, February, and March, you can enjoy a warm and colourful period of time, as plum, peach, and kapok flowers bloom in the villages - especially in the Lo Lo Chai Village.
- In April, the season of white Bauhinia (Ban) flowers indicates that Spring is arriving in the Northern Mountains of Vietnam.

Ha Giang flower fields and photo spots
There are several locations in Ha Giang that are extremely photogenic, particularly Lo Lo Chai Village, located close to Lung Cu Flag Tower.
From here, you will get some of the most wonderful views of buckwheat flowers growing next to yellow clay houses.
If you visit Ha Giang during the buckwheat season, take a walk or a bike ride along the way to Dong Van, Ma Pi Leng Pass, and Lung Tao, and you will be able to view hundreds of hills and fields.
Tips for the best flower-viewing experience
- Check the weather forecast before traveling to Ha Giang, so you can choose the best sunny days for taking your photographs.
- Bring a lightweight jacket with you, because even though the temperature may be very high during the day, the mountain air may be cooler in the early morning and in the evening.
- It is recommended to spend the night in a local homestay, as it will allow you to see the sunrise over the flower fields.
- Bring your camera or drone with you, because the landscape of Ha Giang is certainly one-of-a-kind and you will want to capture it.
