A Spiritual Dawn at My Son Sanctuary

Paul Lee

Standing before a 1,000-year-old temple as the first light touched its bricks, I felt as if I were admiring something sacred, without the midday crowds.
Almost like I was witnessing something sacred, that didn't include the midday tourists.
Let VIET DOVE Travel help you enjoy that morning.

    When the Ruins Come Alive

I arrived before 6:00 AM, and the quiet forest was still. As the sun rose, the world came alive, light pierced through the trees, illuminating the ancient temples in golden hues.
The breaking light cracked through the leaves of the trees like beautiful golden beams of light against the moss-covered towers.
There were no tour groups, no loud chatter. Just trees whispering, birds chirping, and my heart pounding. I was not merely looking at history; I was experiencing it.

    A Sunrise Filled with Significance

Most Cham towers at My Son face east, toward the rising sun—a symbol of life and fertility. Watching the morning light fill these sacred spaces, I realized this was more than architecture; it was a living expression of belief.
This is more than architecture. It’s a message written in bricks, in the language of light.
During that time of the day, in that golden hour, I understood something I had read about in the guidebooks: this was not just a site of worship. The monuments, rituals, and symbols were living expressions of faith, culture, and cosmic connectivity.

    Preparing for The Sunrise

I’d like to offer some suggestions to help make your morning at My Son memorable.

    Sleep Well, Rise Early

Please don’t take less time sleeping the night before, as you will need to warm those legs up before you hike across the temple site.

    Pack Smart, Packing Light

Bring some mosquito repellent, sunscreen (use it liberally), and a wide-brimmed hat. The sun will crank up fast after 7 AM.

Bring a Snack and a Drink

There are not many places to eat nearby at that hour, so a bottle of water and a granola bar go a long way.

    Don’t Forget Your Camera

This is the best light you’ll ever get in My Son. Even a smartphone will capture magical shots.

    Enjoy a Local Coffee

There is a little coffee shop next to the entrance. Sit down for a hot cup and watch the jungle breathe around you.
